WHAT DO DOCTOR ANG’S PANTIES & A POSITIVE ATTITUDE HAVE IN COMMON?

Bonjour Royal Friends!

I want to chat with you today about how you don’t always have to make huge changes in your way of thinking to become happier and have a more positive mindset. Often, becoming happier just takes a conscious effort to make small shifts in perspective. But you have to be on the lookout for ways to do that. Some examples.

Has this ever happened to you?  You’re sitting in a jet waiting for take-off on a drab and rainy day. The jet takes off, and as it rises higher and higher above the clouds, the former gloomy grey vista suddenly becomes bright and cheery as the sun appears, glistening with golden rays.  You marvel as your spirits magically seem to lift. The sudden shift in perspective from a new angle above the clouds was all you needed to shake the blue mood.

Here’s another one. I call it, The Story of DR. ANG’S PANTIES.

Several years ago, I was shopping for an evening gown at a very glamourous North Jersey Mall. I was in a bit of a rush, but I decide to make a surgical strike and pop into Victoria’s Secret before heading home. One can never think too much pink. This particular boutique was having a blowout panty sale: seven panties for $26.00!  Since I didn’t have time to try them on, the sales associate explained that I could buy one pair and order the other six for the sale price if I wanted to.

The next day I tried them on and I just loved my new bloomers!  I pulled out the sales receipt to look up the correct style.  On the receipt, in addition to the style number, were the words “DR  ANG.”  Cool. Didn’t know that.  A panty designed by a doctor for a perfect, ergonomic fit. Made sense.  That’s what progress is all about.  I started looking for DR ANG’s panties on the Victoria Secret website, but I couldn’t find them anywhere.  How could that be? I just bought them yesterday. I  looked again. And again. I’m thinking, this is ridiculous.  Was the sales associate giving me the run around? Are they already closing out the sale? Then I thought, take your cynical tiara off, princess. There has to be an explanation. Take another look with fresh eyes.

All of a sudden something occurred to me. There is no DR ANG.  And I  didn’t buy ergonomically correct panties.  Victoria Secret has a collection of lingerie called Dream Angel.

Of course, you know me by now. I’m not writing this piece merely to expound on small shifts in thinking for planes and panties.  We’ve all got bigger fish to fry. Here’s the bigger catch. After I was diagnosed with breast cancer, I nearly drowned in fear and anxiety. I knew I had to find a way to see the experience differently or I was going to be one unhappy camper. I knew that I was going to have to find a way to “give a shift.”  I made a decision.  I was going to find what was positive in all the challenges that lay ahead. Here’s an example. When I was facing my double mastectomy, instead of telling myself that I was getting my boobs lopped off, I kept repeating to myself that I was getting a new set of Park Avenue boobs. Ask me if that helped. Uh….that would be a YES! What that did was replace a rather nightmarish, practically barbaric image in my mind with something that was actually positive. I was coming out even better! Or so I told myself. But that, dearies, is what the trick is.

As we go on this journey together in my kingdom, I want you to keep in the forefront of your mind that SHIFTING your PERSPECTIVE is an overarching theme for finding your way to live your royally happy life.  Please work on that. It’s a game changer.
