Are Your New Year’s Resolutions Slipping? Try This for Success!

Bonjour Royal Friends!

Welcome to my blog, a ‘tongue-in-chic’ happiness lifestyle guide from a funny princess point of view!

The new year is well under way, but for some of you, your New Year’s resolutions aren’t.  Why is that? I’ll bet dollars to donkeys what you want to achieve is hard!  Good for you! That means you’ve chosen a worthy goal.

But sometimes the hard stuff comes with a head trip as difficult to deal with as the BIG THING you want to achieve. Because if the goal is hard, there will likely be some fits and starts. Some sputters and fall backs. Some things that make you feel like a failure.

There’s help available! Name it and claim it; it’s already inside of you. The most powerful motivational quote you need to know!

The help I’m talking about is the power of your own mind to overcome negative thoughts that tend to weaken your resolve.  Thoughts like,  “I never stick to anything,” “I’m such a failure,” or, “What makes me think I can accomplish this goal when I’ve tried and failed so many times before?” Give yourself a break.  It’s not easy to establish new habits. Getting down on yourself only makes achieving goals harder. It will make you feel defeated and feel like giving up.  Don’t give up! You can use your mind to re-set yourself up for success.

Here’s the trick that helps me stick to my goals even when the molehills feel like mountains. I use what I call “Mind Mantras.” Mind Mantras are words or phrases that give me the kick of confidence I need to keep going.

In the case of going after a goal, the Mind Mantra I use to set me up for the long haul is: “difficult but not impossible.”  These four magic words help me get my confidence mojo back when my spirits start to sag and I feel I’m not up to the task. This Mind Mantra helps recalibrate my energy into a positive vibration where I feel powerful again. I look the challenge square in the eye, which in itself is difficult because eyes are round, and I declare to myself: “Difficult…but not impossible!” Nanny nanny poo poo, oh you negative inner chatter. Begone!

Say, for example, your New Year’s resolutions were to shed 20 pounds and become a vegetarian.  Up until last week, you had lost four pounds, and you hadn’t had a lick of anything with four legs.  Smells like success to me! But another high-cock cocktail party arrived and you found yourself face-to-face with scrumptious little tidbits of cheesy thingies with avocado and fried corn doodads arranged beautifully on silver trays passed around by gorgeous, smiling servers in white gloves and a silk scarf.  And yet another silver tray passed around had frisbee-sized fungus sitting mile-high-piled with warm, oozing, beefy stuffing of mostly garlic-y bread crumbs and butter… passed around by more gorgeous, smiling servers in white gloves and a silk scarf.

After two glasses of The Best Bubbly Ever you let your guard down and scarf down everything but the scarf.

The next day, when the bubbly goes away, the scale rises and your spirits sag. You feel defeated. You think maybe you don’t have what it takes to get to your goals. How are you going to do something that seems so hard? Here’s where the Mind Mantra comes in. Say to yourself, “Okay, this might be difficult, but not impossible!”  Tell yourself for sure it may be difficult not to wolf down the appetizers at the next cocktail party, or buffet, or picnic, or food-for-all…but not impossible.  Somebody’s going to be able to do it. It might as well be me! Use the Mind Mantra as resolve to help you refuse to give in to your negative inner musings.

Keep the Mind Mantra in your hip pocket and pull it out as your shield whenever obstacles arise. Wear this phrase like your motto, a royal crest on your shield of armor.

Whether you aspire to become a lighter you, a healthier you, a more well-read you, a non-smoking you, a less-stressed you, or a money-saver you, say this phrase over and over and over to yourself. “Difficult…but not impossible!” Chances are, the next time you face a challenge that challenges your resolution, you’ll sail through it like the mighty powerful person you are.

If somebody can do it, it might as well be you.
