Welcome to my blog, a ‘tongue-in-chic’ happiness lifestyle guide from a funny princess point of view!
Today I’d like to share a short video with you about making it your default strategy to give people the Benefit of the Doubt. The Give the Benefit of the Doubt Strategy is a potent self-intervention and prevention tool for better relationships, and as a result more happiness. It’s a self-intervention when you forbear from going on the attack or offensive when you feel someone has intentionally (or unintentionally) aggrieved you. It’s a prevention when it stops you from blowing up a relationship when you don’t have all the facts. It gives you a chance to discover whether a person is innocent of the alleged and perceived offense before you react and mess a good thing up.
The Give the Benefit of the Doubt Strategy can save you from some real heartache that you might otherwise bring upon yourself. Because for every action (or over-reaction) there is a reaction (or over-reaction.) How would you feel if you ripped your friend a new one, say, being insensitive for baking you a birthday cake with almonds (to which you are allergic), only to discover, after they left leaving skid marks on the travertine, that they didn’t know you were allergic to almonds! They baked it because they thought you would love it! This Give the Benefit of the Doubt Strategy holds, of course, only assuming your name isn’t Julius and your friend’s name, Brutus.
This short video explains it all with a fun story from my childhood. You know I’m the princess of positivity…and metaphors! Watch video here:
