Bonjour Royal Friends!
I’m Princess Diane Von Brainisfried and it’s a joy to welcome you into my kingdom, where positivity rules!
Are you someone who wants to leave the world better off for having been here? Do you want to make a positive impact in the world in a big way?
Chances are if you are reading this blog you are that kind of person. But it seems a rather daunting goal, doesn’t it? Perhaps you believe it’s totally outside your wheelhouse to try and deactivate the negative ions that seem to be swirling around in the air, in the hair, in the stare of so many people. Perhaps you believe to make a positive change in the world you need a sphere of influence that reaches from here to Atlantis…and Timbuktu, too. Maybe you’re scratching your head right now wondering how you could ever find a way to make your mark on this world and leave it better for your being here.
Well stop scratching. I’ve got some pharmaceutical grade anti-itching powder advice in the form of one simple practice you can incorporate into your daily life. It’s this. In your actions and interactions through the day, keep one question running like ticker tape in the back of your mind: “Is this my highest self?”
For example, if I find myself about to act in a way that’s mean, petty, unforgiving, cynical, gossipy, or just plain not nice, I’ll ask myself, “Is this my highest self?” If the answer is “no,” that’s often enough to snap me out of commoner status and put me right back to my royal “high”ness.
Lest you think I’m perfect, or that I can always live up to my highest self, think again. I can’t. As a matter of fact, often I don’t even remember to ask myself the question! Boo hoo on me. I wish I could. But I am practicing bringing this to my awareness, and the more I do it, well, the more I do it.
I can’t always be my highest self, but I can try. It takes an awareness to try. And this question brings that awareness.
Here’s the thing. We think that making a big imprint on the world is the big goal. Perhaps that’s putting the horse before the cart. You know how they say, “Think globally, act locally?” I’m beginning to realize that locally is a metaphor for us. Perhaps focusing on trying to make the world a better place instead of ourselves being a better place is actually a cop out. Maybe we need to do both for the big global thing to happen. If we are world-globe do-gooders, but we stay nasty sons of bitches…what good is that?
As the Sufi poet, Rumi, said, “Yesterday I was clever. so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.”
Leaving the world a better place doesn’t take money. It doesn’t take being a person of vast influence. It takes practicing an awareness to exercise your highest self. And believe me, your highest self is already there. You are made of stardust, after all.
