Today’s royal decree is this: Don’t let fear stand in the way of your goals.
🦁 Even Princesses Get Scared
Confession time, my royal friends—I’m a big one to talk! Why? Because here I am asking you to slay your fears, yet this princess has more fears than frog in a French bistro! 👑😅🐸
But here’s the twist: I often move forward towards my goals in spite of my fears. And isn’t that what courage truly is—moving forward even when you’re afraid?
If you’d like to watch my short video on this topic you can see it here.
It’s normal to feel the jitters when stepping into the unknown. Fear can freeze us faster than a royal carriage stuck in the snow. But fear doesn’t have to be your ruler. Small shifts in how you interpret your world can help you overcome many a jitter. From the Cowardly Lion to The Little Engine that Could, there are many examples of finding your courage mojo by changing how you think. You deserve to go after your goals and not let your own darn self stand in your own darn way. That’s a royal decree! ✨
💬 “Normal Fears and Doubts”
Here’s one tip for shifting your thoughts that can super charge your courage. That inner voice of fear that terrifies you when you go for the goal is often just the clang of normal fears and doubts. How did I learn this? Many of you know I’ve been taking opera lessons for years. During one lesson, my teacher shared something that stayed with me through the ages. Before walking on stage in front of thousands, she would whisper to herself:
“Normal fears and doubts. Normal fears and doubts.”
Isn’t that comforting? Even the most dazzling performers have butterflies in their tummies! Remembering that fear is normal helps you take your next brave step.
⚖️ The Law School Lesson
Here’s another tip for a mindset shift that will keep you fighting fear and finding courage that I picked up on my royal doings. Once upon a time, in my first semester of law school, I was terrified. I was struggling to comprehend what seemed like a new language, a new way of thinking, and new concepts. Have you ever eaten at an authentically ethnic restaurant where the entire menu is in a different language? And you’re allergic to nuts? Any dish you order could spell imminent disaster, because you don’t know what the heck is in it! That’s what the first semester of law school felt like to me. A totally different realm. It didn’t help that I had major gaps in practical living. I didn’t even know the difference between a mortgagor and a mortgagee!
And it wasn’t just your princess who was struggling with fear. I had a dear classmate who was struggling too. We found each other the first day and became fast friends. Friends in fear it turns out! We called each other every night for emotional support. She was so anxious she’d throw up every night. I wasn’t throwing up—but I was crying. She’d throw up; I’d cry. That was our routine. It was a rather messy conversation.
Here’s the kicker. I thought my fear meant I didn’t belong there—that I wasn’t smart enough. But you know what? I didn’t flunk out. I did well! Eventually, my fear faded, though my friend sadly dropped out.
At the time, I thought fear was proof I wasn’t capable. But years later, I learned something that completely reframed that royal misunderstanding.
🌟 What Bob Proctor Taught Me
When I later studied with the late, great Bob Proctor—a legendary personal growth mentor featured in The Secret—he said something I’ll never forget:
“If you don’t have a dream that’s big enough to scare the pants off you, then you don’t have a worthy goal.”
Mic drop! 💫
That’s when I realized that my fear back in law school wasn’t proof of weakness. It was proof that I had a dream worthy of me. My goal to become a lawyer was stretching me—and stretch we must, if we are to grow. Just ask a redwood.
👑 Your Royal Reminder
So, my royal ones, if you find yourself quaking in your crown as you chase your dreams, remember this:
- Don’t let fear hold you back.
- Think “normal fears and doubts.”
- Fear means your goal is worthy of you.
Normal fears and doubts? Perfectly royal. Just keep moving forward anyway, one brave step at a time.
💋 And That’s Your Royal Message of the Day
If you have a dream that makes your tiara tremble, don’t run from it—run toward it. Because your courage will sparkle brighter than any jewel in your crown…and every great reign begins with one courageous act. 💪👑
