Dear Royal Friends,
With all my heart I wish you abundant happiness for a fab-YOU-licious New Year. My wish for you, however, goes far beyond common notions of happiness; it has something to do with laundry.
I know that may sound like an oxymoron, using the words “laundry” and “happiness” in the same sentence. Before you disregard this missive as being all “washed up” — read on! I’m talking about laundry that’s not for wash day, but a laundry list …for a happier life!
In her book, The How of Happiness, noted author and psychologist Sonia Lyubomirsky has researched and put together a list of things the happiest people do. Anyone on my website and blog is prolly already doing some of them. After all, in my kingdom, kicking up happiness mojo is what we’re all about. But everyone can do a little something more to up their happiness factor. Often, the only issue standing in the way is not knowing what to do, or where to begin.
Since it’s the start of a new year, it’s a perfect time to learn a few new happiness skills and take action to boost your happiness quotient. Why not learn from people who already get it right! Below, I’ve created a short list by noting a few of the happiness traits the happiest people share that are cited in Lyubomirsky’s book.
Do more of what’s tried and true on this laundry list, and be prepared to “wash” away some more frowns and “clean up” with some more smiles!
LAUNDRY LIST OF WHAT THE HAPPIEST PEOPLE DO:
1. Devote time to relationships
2. Express gratitude
3. Offer help to those who need it
4. Practice optimism
5. Cope effectively with difficult experiences and emotions
6. Get regular exercise
7. Savor life’s pleasures
8. Commit deeply to the pursuit of life-long goals
Here’s to a new year in which you up your happiness quotient! Happy new year! Good luck in the resolve to up yours!
If you like what you read, be a gem and share it!
